Costumes

When I was a kind, I LOVED dressing up for Halloween. I also LOVED making my own costumes. As I child, I cut sheets into strips, and meticulously wrapped them around my body for a mummy. Being a fan of The Lord of the Rings, I made a Ring Wraith costume well before Peter Jackson. As I entered high school, I put childish things aside, and stopped making costumes. Not until well into college did I have a desire to make costumes again. The key word in that sentance being "desire". I didn't make anything, but the seeds of wanting to be the guy with the really cool costume were planted.

Fast forward several years, and I'm working in corporate America. I'm working at a cool company, and they encourage employees to dress up for Halloween. One of my co-workers dresses up as Tippi Hedren from The Birds. She wore a dress and attahced little birds all over herself. She added rips, and fake blood. I thought it was amazing. The next year, she does Captian Jack Sparrow. Only this time, she sews all her own pieces. This level of creativity blew me away. We started talking about how she did it, and I decided I thought I could learn to sew.

And so I did. One Christmas, my wife got a sewing machine. I'm not even sure why. I went to the library, and got a few books on sewing. The rest is history. I've logged way more hours, and miles of thread, on that machine than my wife.

Eventually, I'll get all my costumes posted here. Here's my Nurse Joker from The Dark Knight.
