A Call to Action

I finally had a chance to go back and read some magazine article's I've ripped out the past few months, and one of them from Entrepreneur Magazine had some really simple, but really great advice.

The article talks about how users navigate websites. Most of what's written is common knowledge:

  • Users like a familiar layout and easily become confused with non-standard layouts.
  • Users read the web like they read a book; upper left corner to lower right.
  • Because of this diagonal reading approach, logos an navigation should be at the top, content and teasers in the middle, and a Call to Action at the bottom right.
  • Navigation should be simple.
  • Important information should be "above the fold". Users often times won't bother scrolling to the bottom of a page.

Call to Action

Of course. It's so simple! So why haven't I been doing it? From this day forward, I shall! I will start adding a simple call to action on my websites. I will try to solicit contact information in order to market my services. First, I need to come up with an incentive to get people to submit my form...

Offer free consultations on their existing websites perhaps?

I'll let you know what I come up with!
